eccentron™ Testimonials

"Eccentric strength is the essential ingredient in the overall performance enhancement of any athlete. Where many people might be familiar with the benefits of "plyometric" training, few realize that the ability to be strong as the muscle is lengthening under tension is what makes an athlete really explosive. Stopping and starting are dependent upon eccentric strength. The eccentron™ is the only method of developing eccentric strength in a reasonable, effective, and self-contained way. The eccentron has played a major role in my rehabilitation and athletic development programs."

"I have been working out on the eccentron for about 12 weeks and have noticed a significant improvement in leg strength, endurance and improved balance, without noticing any pain. What makes this statement remarkable is the fact that I am a 54 year old quadriplegic.

I suffered a spinal cord injury my senior year in college when I dove into a reservoir and broke my neck. I was totally paralyzed from the shoulders down. Miraculously, I have somewhat recovered and today am fully ambulatory, though still left with much residual weakness and impaired reflexes. An ex-ski professional instructor, I can ski intermediate runs and I am a 20 handicapper on the golf course. However, due to my age, I had begun noticing more weakness and lack of balance. I found it difficult to ski or play golf with any proficiency, and without significant lower back pain. In addition to my spinal cord injury, I also have an arthritic back condition known as ankylosing spondylitis, as well as a fused right ankle. Traditional strength building exercises such as squats using weights or machines were simply too painful. The eccentron has enabled me to build my leg strength and gain balance without any pain.

I have gone from 7 minutes on the machine [resisting] a total of 14,000 pounds to 20 minutes, and a total of 67,000 pounds of [force resisted]. More importantly, I recently returned from a golf outing, where I played 18 holes of golf a day for four days in a row without fatigue or back pain...now that's a miracle! I'm convinced that the eccentron has been the reason."

"It's amazing how much specific load you are able to generate in such a short amount of time when training with the eccentron. Performing a sport such as alpine skiing that requires so much eccentric load there could not be a better training tool than the eccentron."

Erik Schlopy, USSA Men's Alpine Team

"The US Ski Team has been using the eccentron as part of our summer preparation program for the past twelve months. The system provides our athletes with the ability to augment their eccentric training program with the additional benefits of eccentric load control and management. One of the key elements of this system is the instantaneous feedback that our athletes receive while using the eccentron, and the ability to generate force independently with each leg allows the athletes to better focus on the specific muscles working. Overall, the ability to train eccentric muscle movement without excessive loading of the spine is a huge advantage that the eccentron has compared to many other eccentric overload training systems."

Per Lundstam, USSA Sport Science Department

"The eccentron is great. It enables you to build to your max in a controlled force environment, and with the results on a screen right in front of you it allows you to formulate a plan and goals for the next workout simultaneously.

The technology of the eccentron makes it possible to work both legs separately reproducing the same dynamic movement you have when you are loading your skis to turn. No other cross-training method imitates the motions and muscle recruitment of a ski turn better than the eccentronȘ. The burn I get from the eccentron is the equivalent to how I feel after a seventy second GS race."

Kaylin Richardson, USSA Women's Alpine Team

"The eccentron trains our muscles' coordination while building power in a ski-specific way. This eccentric work is an important component to training in our time off snow. Outside of the eccentron and actual skiing, this environment is difficult to simulate."

Jenny Lathrop, USSA Women's Alpine Team

"My experience with the eccentron has been excellent. Through my training on this machine I have a much better balance of quad & hamstring strength. I had been experiencing terrible problems with my IT band, which was causing both knee and hip pain. Since my work on the eccentron, both of these issues have been resolved. Not only that, my telemark and downhill skiing saw great improvements, and I have never felt stronger cycling. Thank you Terry and Patti."

"Peak Energy Performance Therapy has been using the eccentron over the last year, not only for rehabilitation of patients but for performance training of athletes. The therapeutic benefit of lower extremity eccentric exercise is incredible. I have been able to rehab ankles, knees, and hips in a modified weight bearing fashion due to the recumbent shape of the eccentron. This allows the patient to comfortably place as much or as little pressure on the injured joint or limb. The graphical display allows the patient to compare injured and non-injured limbs simultaneously and helps to provide a goal for future progress. As the affected limb is strengthened the user can see how closely it relates to his/her normal force production. From a documentation standpoint, all of the data is stored and can be revisited to show patients, doctors, and insurance companies measurable progress. This alone is an invaluable tool in the physical therapy profession.

Athletes of all sports do incredibly well with the eccentron. This is such a novel training tool that many high-level athletes have never experienced the benefits of eccentric resistance training. In working with many elite cyclists, triathletes, and runners, almost all have commented on their hill climbs getting easier. Additionally, runners report the downhill portions have become less taxing on their knees. After training on the eccentron, many runners report having little or no trouble with tendonitis in the knees, which is a problem that plagues almost every runner at some point in their athletic career. The eccentron is a perfect complement to conventional lower body training. In fact, many athletes that have hit a plateau in their training have been able to break out to higher levels after eccentric resistance training on the eccentron. Baseball catchers report that their catcher's squat is easier and their knees hurt less. Pitchers are able to create more drive off of the mound helping increase velocity. Basketball players are jumping higher and suffering less from the constant pounding on the hardwood court. Soccer players are generating more force production out of the quadriceps and are kicking the ball harder. Clearly, the eccentron is a 'must have' piece of equipment for athletes of every caliber."

"Thank you very much for the opportunity to work with the eccentron in the early stages of development. At the Orthopaedic Center of the Rockies in Fort Collins, Colorado, we provide pre-op and post-operative rehabilitation for twenty Orthopaedic Physicians. As such, we treat individuals with a wide variety of diagnoses.

The eccentron is a valuable tool in our facility to assist in the development of functional rehabilitation strategies. Its closed-chain nature allows safe strengthening and development, coupled with measurable data and outcomes. While no single exercise or piece of equipment makes or breaks a rehabilitation program, the eccentron is truly a valuable asset."
